Aluminum Fencing

In short

Custom Fencing Solutions installs aluminum fences for homes in Lexington and across Central Kentucky. Aluminum is the right choice when you want a fence that will not rust, needs little more than an occasional wash, follows a sloped yard and keeps your view open. Most residential aluminum fences are 4, 5 or 6 feet tall, with a powder-coated finish (black is the most popular) and matching walk and drive gates.

Kentucky weather is tough on fences. Humid summers, heavy spring rain and freeze-thaw winters rot untreated wood and rust steel. Aluminum does not rust, and a powder-coated finish protects its color, so an aluminum fence keeps looking sharp with very little upkeep.

Aluminum is also one of the easiest fences to fit to the rolling lots common around Lexington. Rackable panels shift with the grade so the bottom rail follows the ground instead of leaving gaps. Because the pickets are open, it marks your boundary and keeps pets and kids in without blocking views of the yard, the street or a pool. That is why it is a favorite for front yards and in HOA neighborhoods, where open, uniform fencing is often required.

Planned around the rules

Permits, HOA guidelines, pool barrier rules and Kentucky 811 utility marking are planned for before any digging starts.

Before you book

Things to plan for

  • It is not a privacy fence: Aluminum pickets are open by design. If you need to screen a patio or block a neighbor's view, pair aluminum in the front with a wood privacy fence in the back.
  • Check height and style rules first: Lexington requires a permit for fences 24 inches or taller, and zoning and many HOAs limit height and style. We help you confirm what applies before you choose.
  • Utility lines must be marked: Kentucky law requires a Kentucky 811 locate request at least two full business days before digging. Marking is free, and no post hole is dug before it is done.
Afterwards

Looking after your fence

  • Rinse the fence with a garden hose and wash it with mild soap and water when it gets dusty.
  • Keep vines and yard waste off the panels, check gate hinges and latches each spring, and touch up any deep scratch in the finish so it stays protected.

Frequently asked

Fence questions we hear most

How tall can an aluminum fence be?
Most residential aluminum fences are 4, 5 or 6 feet tall. The right height depends on what the fence is for and on local zoning and HOA rules, which we help you check before you choose.
Can an aluminum fence go on a sloped yard?
Yes. Rackable aluminum panels shift to follow the grade, so the fence tracks the ground without big gaps underneath. On steeper ground, panels can be stepped instead. That makes aluminum one of the easiest fences to fit to rolling Central Kentucky lots.
Is an aluminum fence good for dogs?
For most dogs, yes. Puppy picket panels add extra pickets at the bottom so small dogs cannot slip through, and a 5 or 6 foot fence suits bigger dogs. If your dog barks at everything that passes, a solid wood privacy fence may suit you better.
Do I need HOA approval for a new fence?
If your home is in an HOA, almost certainly. Most HOAs want to approve height, material, style and color before work starts. We provide the material, height and style details your HOA usually asks for.
Do underground utilities need to be marked before installing a fence?
Yes. Kentucky 811 must be contacted at least two full business days before digging, not counting the day of the request, weekends or holidays. The service is free, and fence posts should never go in until the lines are marked.
